The Desperate Error

2023
Oil and acrylic on canvas
66” x 12”

The desperate error
to bury sorrow
in a vacuum,
and leave it there.

This is the first painting in what I nicknamed the ‘Poem’ series, as the titles of this and the next three pieces make up a little four-line poem I wrote above.

This is also the final section of the show; the paintings depict abstract representations of the manifestation of grief, absence, and loss on the physical body.

A lot is said about the psychological effects of grief, but not so much is said on the physiological. The stress and trauma of grief can cause any amount of adverse effects on the physical self. And that’s what this group of paintings explore, starting with this one.
