Here we have the next group of works from ‘The Quiet Part, Out Loud’: the charcoal drawings. To those familiar with my previous drawings, these will be something completely different to what you’re used to.

One aspect of grieving that is seldom talked about is how it wreaks havoc on memory. Human memory is spotty to begin with, but grief amplifies it tenfold. All of your thoughts are consumed by it already, why not you memories too? Pieces go missing, figures disappear. It can all congeal together to the point where you can no longer place things at a certain time.

One of the best ways to capture and trigger memories is through photography. So that is the lens through which I represented these altered memories. These drawings, based off of personal photos, have been abstracted to the point that it can be difficult to see what memory was captured at all.
