Some of my classmates thought this painting was a representation of spaces. They felt I broke down an urban space into a series of lines on the red painting. On the black painting, I toned down the number and variety of line, leaving it a more open representation…a more rural interpretation, if you will.
To be quite honest, this was my final project of my final painting class at university. I was gonna just paint the images in the digital art piece (based on a found image of two black men on a street corner), but then I thought about removing the racial element to it – my thought was that blacks are underepresented at my school already, so let me just remove us completely from this painting. That idea didn’t really pan out, so seeing as it was nearing the end of my university “career”, I just basically wanted to paint something that looked neat.
I thought these looked neat, and I hope you do too.
