This is the ‘Incomplete’ series.

Our minds have a certain knack for zeroing in on little details of a memory, rather than the whole thing at once. Little snippets of a larger picture. Grief can do the same with existing memory, masking everything outside of that little detail.

That’s what these eight pieces are meant to represent. From a hand on a shoulder, to some jugs by a door, to a type of phone no one has used in 25+ years. These are the things our minds latch onto when grief erases the rest of the scene.

Partially inspired by a bottle of Old English wood polish. I had it in my room back in my childhood home. It’s one of the first things I noticed when I got back from the hospital the morning my mom died. I remember thinking, “Huh, the last time that bottle was downstairs where it’s supposed to be, mom was still alive.”

It stuck with me, and kind of grounded time for me in a place where time had no meaning anymore. I think it might still be in that room, frozen in time and space.
