2015
Acrylic and ink on canvas
48″ x 24″

This is a piece that I submitted to the Thames Art Gallery, for their 2015 show, “Chatham-Kent: Mine, Yours, and Ours”. The basic theme for the exhibition is to choose an original site in Chatham-Kent, and show how the site has changed through the years.
I picked the empty lot on the corner of Merritt and Richmond. Those familiar may remember it as the former home of the Navistar/International plant, which has since been demolished. The lot and the factory, coming through the fog, a mirage. Serving as a reminder of lost opportunities, greed, and the eventual fallout when bottom lines just aren’t good enough.
I really challenged myself with this painting, trying a boatload of new techniques. At the time, I hadn’t tried painting anything using realism. I added some photos of the piece while it was in progress, so you all could see the whole process.
